Back in college my roommates and I would bbq burgers about every weekend. One weekend I was reminiscing about a little burger shack back in Oregon (King Kone) that served a crazy burger with fried egg. So we pulled everything out of our fridge and started throwing anything on a burger we could find. What we came up with we dubbed "Paradise Burger", the burger so good it will send you to heaven (of a heart attack). It goes a little something like this, two 1/4 pound patties, 2 pieces of cheddar, 2 pieces of swiss, one piece of black forest ham, bacon, and a fried egg on top. We get together about once a year and have a Paradise Burger bbq, the weekend after Easter we got together for our annual Paradise Burger Fest. here are some pics:

[CONTINUED]

We had about 15 of us there including kids. only the guys ate the official paradise burger. 2 guys are no longer referred to as guys since they didnt finish their paradise burger. next year they can try and earn back their guy-hood. our hosts 10 year old daughter gave a valiant effort on her purgatory burger. (the one patty version). my bet is she'll finish off a paradise burger next year!

one of the things that makes a paradise burger a paradise burger is the meticulous care with the ingredients and how the burger is put together.

It goes in this order: 1/4 pound pattie, 1 slice of swiss cheese, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 1 thin slice of black forest ham, 1/4 pound patty, 1 slie of swiss cheese, 1 slice of cheddar cheese, 2 pieces of bacon, 1 fried egg over easy (when the yoke runs all over the burger you know you've reached perfection). the only area for creativity/change is with your condiments. most of us keep it minimal, due to the size of the burger. however some brave souls put on the works. I personally stick with mayo, ketchup, mustard, and onions. (and jalapeno's if available)

As mentioned above a "Purgatory" burger is a one patty paradise burger. Then we have the "Hot as Heck" burger which is basically a Paradise burger with jack cheese, jalapenos, and some dave's insanity sauce. (other hot sauces can be subsituted if dave's is unavailable).
