Pilgrimage to the Worlds Most Expensive Sandwich
I was in London last week, and had to go and check out the home of the Worlds Most Expensive Sandwich, Selfridges in London. For GBP$85, you too can have this fine sandwich. Problem is, it's a takeaway sandwich shop, so it's a bit hard to find a seat! I had a chat to the guy behind the counter and found some interesting stuff about it... read on!

[CONTINUED]

So far, they've sold 93 of these sandwiches, about 1 a week. (I was soooo tempted to buy it too.. haha). The sandwich shown in the display cabinet isn't the one you'd get if you bought one. They usually make one for display purposes every few days. Once you've bought the sandwich, they summon their head chef from the restaurant downstairs, and they make you a fresh sandwich at the sandwich bar. It takes about 10 minutes to make.

Ingredients:

  • Wagyu beef
  • Fresh Duck Foie Gras
  • Black Truffle Mayonnaise
  • Bre de Maux
  • Roquet Leaf
  • Sour Dough Bread
  • British Plum Tomatoes
  • Red Pepper and Mustard Confit

How fascinating! I'm going to be in London for a few days in two weeks' time.
I'll make sure to visit Selfridge's and see for myself what all the fuss is about.
Like you, I probably won't spend the 85 GBP for it though ;)

I'm glad you didn't get one. It has foie gras on it, which is just a product of animal cruelty. It's one thing to butcher an animal but is it really necessary to torture them first?

Yeah, I've read a little about Fois Gras... they force feed the animals to expand their livers... I wonder if they could give the Ducks a "Duck Buffet" instead, where they could just do it to themselves... Would be a much nicer way to go if you were a duck.. :)
