sSs BBQ Barns announces it’s first annual “Shank Off” eating competition, which will feature regional semi-finals being hosted on Saturday 13 January (please contact your local store for details), and the Grand Final hosted at Tamworth sSs BBQ Barn, New England Highway, on Sunday 21 January 2006 at 2pm. Both Professional and Amateur Eaters will compete for regional prizes of $100 (to be presented upon arrival at the Grand Final), and the Grand Final Prize of a sSs Flame Grill BBQ & Esky Combo, a sSs BBQ Pack consisting of: sSs BBQ Apron, sSs Beef Jerky, sSs Lazy Chef Sprinkle and a sSs BBQ Glaze, a Gift Pack Selection of Lazy Poet Wines, sSs Dining Voucher to the Value of $200, a sSs Shank Voucher to the Value of $100, and the title of the “World Shank Eating Champion”. This World Championship Eating Contest will be an Australian first, sanctioned by the Association of Independent Competitive Eaters, showcasing some of Australia’s finest competitive eaters on a global stage for the title of “World Shank Eating Champion”. According to AICE Chairman, Arnie "Chowhound" Chapman, "The folks from sSs BBQ Barns realized that Australian competitive eating fans did not want to be subjected to the spectacle of mutilated, drenched food and wanted to make this an eating contest not a drinking contest." Also, added Chapman, “maybe Australians are not as crazy as we believe." This event will be formatted for extreme excitement as each contestant will compete to see who can eat the most shank in 12 minutes. If he/she qualifies at the regional finals, they will move onto the Grand Final to be held at the Tamworth sSs BBQ Barn during the Tamworth Country Music Festival. Tourism Tamworth has generously provided accommodation for each regional winner. This is a premier event for Australia, an event not to be missed!
