Pizza not expensive enough? Just add gold!

That $9.95 pizza not quite enough to impress your rich friends with? Why not just add gold? That's what one contestant at the NY Pizza Show did. Apparently the pizza was quite good, which was a shame because the gold leaf apparently added little to the pizza (other than a little more bling). Adam from SliceNY reports...

This one was from Spain, though we didn't know that at the time, since it was a double-blind judging. Gold leaf was laid on the pie. It didn't have a flavor. This one was great. The crust, sauce, cheese distro. Everything. The only complaint I had was that it had gold leaf on it, which is more gimmick than anything.

Leaf gold doesn´t add any flavor to it and your body doesn´t digest it, so why some people add it will remain mystery to me. Perhaps it´s just there to show off and to impress customers/people who normally wouldn´t it those dishes.

Well anyway here in Germany there are some diners that add leaf gold to normal sausages. www.litfass-luebeck.de/Gold.htm for a small photo of one of those meals that the world doesn´t really need.
