A MAN has been charged for using tomato sauce to assault police during a scuffle at a protest in Sydney's Hyde Park today.

Police said the 37-year-old Queensland man squirted tomato sauce over a number of police officers and other people in the park about 12.30pm (AEST) today after a scuffle broke out between protesters.

The man was charged with two counts of assaulting an officer in the execution of their duty and was granted bail to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on October 4.
