The Baked Sausage Breakfast Thing

Not sure exactly what this is called, but it's big, it's baked, and it full of sausages. That's a win in my book...(anyone actually know if this is a real dish?)
Updated 12-Mar-09: Thanks anon, it's called a "Toad in the Hole". Looks damn tasty!

Yes, that's it.
Toad in the Hole. Not normally a breakfast dish in the UK - usually served at dinnertime.
Supermarkets last Christmas added this to their seasonal party snack food range with individual ones made with cocktail sausages in batter cooked in a muffin cases.
All real easy to make.
Throw the sausages (and you can use veggie ones if you want, or real posh ones) into a roasting pan, cook til about 2/3 done then shake them around to ensure the tin is well coated with fat. Pour in enough standard batter (flour eggs, milk, salt, white pepper) to almost cover and return to the oven until well risen.
Serve with gravy, veg and whatever style of potato suits you - mash, chips, boiled.
A Great meal that even choosy kids love.

Yeah.. made this last night. Definitely English food - very bland, the batter is thick and eggy. I'm thinking of using pancake batter instead next time.

oh piss off with that 'english food' sh*t. Batter is bland by nature which is why you serve it smothered with gravy. Of course its going to taste like crap if you eat it dry.

Haven't you ever had Yorkshire Pudding? That's what the "batter" for Toad in the Hole is supposed to be.

making yorkshire pudding is an art passed down through generations. Its light fluffy and perfect with gravy because its sposed to be slightly malted. Its definitely not as simple as chucking batter over sausages. This recipe is wasted on novices. Pancake batter? somone wants to lock you in a padded room.
