Takeru Kobayashi in his own Mastercard Commercial

In a somewhat relaxing setting, Takeru Kobayashi casually downs what I would assume to be a Nathan's Hot Dog in a few bites. An epicurean symphony perhaps?

Watchdog blasts 'X-treme Eating'

The "Center for Science in the Public Interest" has apparently blasted high calorie meals in the US. They say that "Now we see lasagne with meatballs on top; ice cream with cookies, brownies, and candy mixed in; bacon cheeseburger pizzas, buffalo-chicken-stuffed quesadillas, and other hybrid horribles that are seemingly designed to promote obesity, heart disease, and stroke." Mmm... Lasagne with meatballs on top.... I should try that one, sounds mighty tasty!

From: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6399267.stm

Chain restaurants in the United States are promoting dangerous "X-treme Eating", a US watchdog has said. They are serving up "ever-more harmful new creations," the Center for Science in the Public Interest says. It says that some individual dishes can exceed 2,000 calories, more than the recommended daily intake for women.

Car covered in Chocolate!

[via Slashfood] Chocolate... the one Valentines day gift that everyone loves... but would you still love it if your entire car was covered in it? A car company in China covered a car in plastic wrap, then coated it in 440lb's of chocolate.

From: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/02/15/chinese-celebrate-valentines-day-with-chocolate-covered-car/

Now here's a Valentine's story we can sink our teeth into. A Chinese car company decided to dunk a New Beetle in chocolate and put it on display outside a grocery store in Qingdao, in the Shandong Province, all in an effort to celebrate Valentine's Day. Seven workers from this local company took 200 kg (440 pounds) of melted chocolate and spread it over the VW after wrapping it in plastic wrap. They even finished it off with candy decorations that included flowers and lettering that spelled out "love."

Police bribe rural children with junk food

I've heard about police being bribed before, but looks like the tables are turning. They're looking at a plan to bribe kids with junk food to keep them from committing crimes in remote communities.... or maybe they're fattening them up so they can't run away as fast...

From: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,21253634-421,00.html

POLICE will give out McDonald's and pizza vouchers to reward children for good behaviour in a town desperate to tackle a youth crime epidemic. Operation Get Smart will be launched in Dubbo to help break down barriers between officers and children.

World's most expensive M&M

[via SlashFood] Who would have thought such a tiny, crunchy chocolate treat could cost so much? A single, brown M&M recently sold for $1500. Why? Because it went into space. It was part of Paul Allen's SpaceShipOne, which apparently made it more valuable.... Would it taste any better? Who knows... crazy!

From: http://www.bookofjoe.com/2007/02/worlds_most_exp.html

It's a brown one (they're no longer made, but no matter) that left the Earth's atmosphere on June 21, 2004 aboard the first flight of Paul Allen's SpaceShipOne. It recently sold for $1,500. "Melts in your mouth, not on re-entry," would be a good tag line, what? I learned this bit of M&M arcana, along with many other interesting facts, by reading Dionne Searcey's article in today's Wall Street Journal about how going into space — especially to the moon — can multiply the value of ordinary objects many, many times over.
