The $165 Truffletini

$20 for a decent cocktail? How about $30? Nope, if you want a truly indulgent Martini, why not try the $165 Trufflltini. This Truffle Martini contains shaved Piemonte white truffles, martini, and is served in a three-foot tall glass. Hmm...

The new contender for the city's most audacious cocktail (the sort of thing Marie Antoinette and her harpies would drink) isn't quite as pricey as the $1,500 Duvet Platinum Passion, nor does it contain 23-karat gold like the World Bar's signature cocktail. Still, it makes us wonder whether this whole truffle craze may have gone a bit far.

The $1000 Pizza, Nino's Bellissima Pizza, New York City
Apparently New Yorkers have an expensive appetite! Following hot on the heels of the DB Bistro Moderne's $99 Burger , comes a $1000 Pizza from Nino's Bellissima Pizza. Yes. 1 Pizza. $1000. Hard to believe? Well apparently this pizza contains such expensive things as creme fraiche, caviar, lobster, and a little wasabi. As for sales so far, celebrity ex-cop Bo Dietl has already had one.

GoldWissen, the Gold Plated Sausage!

From our earlier story on Gold Leaf Topped Pizza comes more crazy gold leaf cooking, this time from Germany! It seems that cooking with gold has been around for centuries. Since medieval times, it was believed that by adding gold to meals, it would help to prolong life, reduce pain and heart disease, and bring strength to those in battle. The Germans continue this fine tradition by adding gold leaf to .... sausage?

New Category, Expensive Food!

It seems expensive meals are starting to become a bit of a media trend now. Way back in April last year we talked about the World's Most Expensive Sandwich... I liked it so much, I even went there for a visit! (I didn't buy it though!). And as more and more places are starting to create "The World's Most Expensive" fare, I figured why not create a section dedicated solely to food that only the richest can afford. Sure, they're not Supersized in stature, but the hole they burn in your wallet sure will be!
