Farewell to Esther Snyder, co-founder of In 'n' Out
You may or may not have heard, but on August 4, 2006, co-founder of the In 'n' Out burger chain Esther Snyder passed away. She helped found In-n-Out Burger back in 1948, being one of the first to introduce the "Drive Thru" way of ordering... From the In 'n' Out Web Site:
In 1948, the first In-N-Out Burger was founded by Harry and Esther Snyder in Baldwin Park. Harry's idea of a drive-thru hamburger stand where customers could order through a two-way speaker box was quite unique. In that era, it was common to see carhops serving those who wanted to order food from their car. Harry's idea caught on and California's first drive-thru hamburger stand was born.
So thanks Esther for helping create an icon thats stood the test of time. Without it, we woudln't have felt the joy of the 100x100! (a Mc 100x100 just wouldn't be right!)
New Worlds Largest Hamburger!
Thanks to "Tucson Tom" for letting me know about this one! Not long ago, Fuddruckers broke the record for the Worlds Largest Commercially available Hamburger.
Then Denny's Beer Barrel Pub came out with the 50lb Beer Barrel Belly Buster.
Now, Bob's BBQ in Pattaya, Thailand
have broken the record with a 78.5lb (35.6kg) burger monstrocity! And for only US$400, you too can take home one of these bad boys...
Pattaya, Thailand, July 31 2006 Bob's BBQ & Grill made a landmark in history in creating the Worlds Largest Hamburger. Bob's BBQ & Grill in celebration of the King of Thailand's 60th year accession to the throne opened the Guinness World Record attempt with a record crushing burger that rocked the scales at 35.6kg (78.5 pounds), while witnesses from Ripley's Believe it or Not measures the diameter at 60cm (23.62 inches) and a height at 35cm (13.78 inches)
Frikandellen Eating Competition, Groesbeek, NL
One of our Anonymous readers sent this in... never had a "Frikandellen" before, but sounds tasty! According to our old friend, Wikipedia, a Frikandel
is a Dutch snack, a sort of minced-meat hot dog. It is a long, dark-coloured sausage that is eaten warm. Unlike other sausages, a frikandel is deep-fried. Sometimes it is served on a piece of bread, and is called a broodje frikandel.
Big thanks to Gary and Rhiannon
for sending this one in... we all know what a cake with icing looks like... nothing special there... but what if there was a cake that looked like a normal cake, but had 6lb's of meaty goodness in the center? Behold! The MEAT CAKE!
This, my friends, is my culinary epiphany. Since I've submitted it to the b3ta weekly newsletter, it's spiralled out of control! 280,000 hits a day on this thing! Hello, bulletin board people! And thank you for featuring me today, Rocketboom!
Feast your eyes on this!
Pilgrimage to the Worlds Most Expensive Sandwich
I was in London last week, and had to go and check out the home of the Worlds Most Expensive Sandwich
, Selfridges in London.
For GBP$85, you too can have this fine sandwich. Problem is, it's a takeaway sandwich shop, so it's a bit hard to find a seat! I had a chat to the guy behind the counter and found some interesting stuff about it... read on!
More giant Ice Creams in Europe
So I'm starting to realise that these are fairly common in Europe... just as well... it's been damn hot in the Netherlands and Italy over the last 2 weeks!
Abyssinia Afrikaans Eet-Cafe, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Ethiopian cuisine is something I hadn't tried before. I have to say that I was pleasently surprised to find they make these huge pancake type things topped with spicy meats... mmm... tasty!
Maggiejumps and the In 'n' Out Challenge
Maggiejumps and a bunch of friends try to down twelve 8x8s, a 4x4 and one order of fries. That's a total of 112 meat pattys! We've already seen pics of Monica
chowing down on her 8x8, now check out the rest of her team try and conquer this mountain of In 'n' Out Burgers (and the cheese, oh the cheese!) But unfortunately some bad news! Photos like this might start to become a little rare, according to this latest comment in the 100x100 post
, In 'n' Out are no longer letting people buy the 8x8! Say it isn't so!!!
