Deep-Fried Pizza Video, Atlantic Chip Shop, Brooklyn, NY
Contributed by: Billy
Googlemaps Location: Brooklyn, NY, USA
A while ago, Adam Kuban from SliceNY.com blogged about how the Atlantic Chip Shop in Brooklyn, NY was offering deep fried pizza on its menu. He also took video footage of the occasion as well! The video goes into the origins of the Deep Fried Pizza, what pizza is best to deep fry, and is generally a step-by-step guide on how to make your own!

GoldWissen, the Gold Plated Sausage!
Contributed by: Billy
From our earlier story on Gold Leaf Topped Pizza comes more crazy gold leaf cooking, this time from Germany! It seems that cooking with gold has been around for centuries. Since medieval times, it was believed that by adding gold to meals, it would help to prolong life, reduce pain and heart disease, and bring strength to those in battle. The Germans continue this fine tradition by adding gold leaf to .... sausage?

(Google Translated) From far countries in the evening country and of the antiquity over the Middle Ages and the Renaissance history goes from gilded meals. In old times gold in benefit and food was well-known, and gold foil for refining and Verzieren by meals and drinking, in addition, to mythischen rituals and welfare purposes was already used.

New Category, Expensive Food!
Contributed by: Billy
It seems expensive meals are starting to become a bit of a media trend now. Way back in April last year we talked about the World's Most Expensive Sandwich... I liked it so much, I even went there for a visit! (I didn't buy it though!). And as more and more places are starting to create "The World's Most Expensive" fare, I figured why not create a section dedicated solely to food that only the richest can afford. Sure, they're not Supersized in stature, but the hole they burn in your wallet sure will be!

We here at SupersizedMeals.com care about your health... that's why today we're going to do a little bit of edumacation. It's the Portion Distortion Interactive Quiz! How much have food portions changed over the last 20 years? Soda's used to come in bottles, now they come in buckets. And what about those single patty cheeseburgers, bah, too small! Now we've got 100x100's! This quiz helps you figure out how much more work you need to do at the gym or around the house to burn off those Supersized meal options.
From: http://hp2010.nhlbihin.net/portion/portion.cgi?action=question&number=1
Anyone eating on the run or at restaurants has probably noticed that food portions have gotten larger. Some portions are called "super size," while others have simply grown in size and provide enough food for at least two people. With this growth have come increases in waistlines and body weight. To see if you know how today's portions compare to the portions available 20 years ago, quiz yourself on Portion Distortion I (2003) and Portion Distortion II (2004). You will also learn about the amount of physical activity required to burn off the extra calories provided by today's portions.

Food Battle Club - Kobayashi vs Akasaka
Contributed by: Billy
Oh how I love Japanese game shows... This one is particularly awesome. Back in 2001, a very young looking Takeru Kobayashi (famed Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Champion) is put up against "Queen"Akasaka to see who can eat the most Sushi and Gyoza. On what looks to be at least a 50 ft buffet table, this "Street Fighter" style clip has the two racing against each other to see who can get to the finish first. Giant Shirota also makes a very trendy appearance, looking somewhat amazed at Kobayashi's performance!

Speed Painting with Ketchup and French Fries
Contributed by: Billy
Fast food is usually fast.... but next time you're waiting for that custom "Whopper with heavy Mayo, Heavy Pickle", why not use that waiting time constructively? This guy did, creating a masterpiece from only ketchup and fries. This video is a time-lapse of a 50 minute painting (?) made solely from Ketchup and Fries!

Pizza not expensive enough? Just add gold!
Contributed by: Billy
That $9.95 pizza not quite enough to impress your rich friends with? Why not just add gold? That's what one contestant at the NY Pizza Show did. Apparently the pizza was quite good, which was a shame because the gold leaf apparently added little to the pizza (other than a little more bling). Adam from SliceNY reports...
From: http://www.sliceny.com/archives/2007/03/the_gold_pizza.php
This one was from Spain, though we didn't know that at the time, since it was a double-blind judging. Gold leaf was laid on the pie. It didn't have a flavor. This one was great. The crust, sauce, cheese distro. Everything. The only complaint I had was that it had gold leaf on it, which is more gimmick than anything.

Pics of the Krispy Kreme Challenge, NC State Belltower, Jan 2007
Contributed by: Billy
Following on from our earlier article about the Krispy Kreme Challenge, Abby's Mom has kindly allowed us to show you her photos of the event. What could be the future of competitive eating (a combination of fitness and eating prowess), this event is like no other. Pleasure, pain, and doughnuts!
From: http://flickr.com/photos/abbys_mom/sets/72157594539971098/
In 2004, NC State Sophomore Chris McCoy came up with a challenge. He would gather some friends at the NC State belltower and begin a run toward downtown Raleigh. His jog would take him two miles downhill to the Raleigh krispy Kreme bakery. There they would each consume 1 dozen of the legendary hot glazed doughnuts. The group would then run back to the belltower to finish the race. All in less than an hour.
