911 Challenge, University Chicken, San Jose, CA
University Chicken has a few locations in the Santa Clara area, and they've also got their own eating challenge. The 911 Hotwings Challenge: Eat 12 of their hottest 911 Hotwings in 10 minutes or less. Beat the challenge and you'll get a free shirt and your picture up on their wall of fame. Many have tried, only a few have succeeded!

From: http://www.cookingforengineers.com/article.php?id=143&title=University+Chicken's+911+Challenge

On Friday, Alex James, from my group at work, took on a challenge that no one thought he could handle. Near Santa Clara University, a small restaurant that specializes in hot & spicy chicken wings hosts a food eating contest that only involves twelve wings (wingettes and drumettes counted as two separate wings). The 911 Challenge at University Chicken doesn't sound so bad, but Alex definitely met his match... and prevailed.

Hot Wings Challenge Round 2, Wingnuts, Vancouver, BC
They say a picture says a thousand words. I can think of no picture that holds truer.... This is round 2 for the Wingnuts Hot Wings Challenge (click for previous story). Only one picture in this story, but imho that's all you need...

From: http://www.wingschallenge.com/?p=4

The response from the first challenge was so overwhelming positive that a second challenge was posted for the following Wednesday but with a bigger pot which now stood at the cost of the wings + $100. Now with a better idea of what to expect, people started posting suggestions to would be competitors to help them gain that edge they needed. From eating hot wax a la Homer Simpson to drinking Pepto-Bismol to peeling the meat off all the wings, then eating them - we had it all.

Gal Sone and her 40,000 Calorie Meal

Gal Sone would have to be one of the most amazing female eaters I have ever seen. The amount she puts away is truly amazing. Sure, Sonya "The Black Widow" Thomas knows how to destroy her meals quickly, but it's slow and steady for Gal Sone, which equals mucho entertainment for all! In this vid, she manages to consume 40,000 calories in (I think) one day. If you speak/understand Japanese, could you give us a brief run down what they're talking about in the comments? [Edit: A great summary of each dish available in the comments, thanks to one of our anonymous readers!]

The 7lb "Mountain Burger", Mrs Ritchie's, Nanaimo, BC
Mrs Ritchie's in Nanaimo, BC has a worthy challenge. They've got a 7lb "Mountain Burger", big enough for even the largest BC appetite! The Challenge: eat the 7lb "Mountain Burger" and fries in less than an hour, and you'll get the meal free! Here's a few pics of this mammoth mountain of burgery goodness!

From: http://www.thesavagefiles.com/tripjournal/08-11.htm

After three hours peering into tide pools and slipping on slimy rocks, we drove into town to undertake a challenge. Mrs Ritchie's restaurant in Nanaimo challenges anyone to eat their rather generous sized mountain burger. If you can finish the whole burger and the fries that come with it, in less than an hour....the feast is free. Have a look at the photograph of the giant burger, and guess for yourself whether I completed the challenge or not. I'll give you a hint- the damn thing weighs seven pounds!

The Febo Wall of Food

If you've been to Amsterdam, chances are you've seen the great Febo Wall of Food. Perfect for those "special" late night snacks, this place offers deep fried goodies stored in tiny compartments, opened by those who drop a few Euro's into the adjacent coin slots. I'd imagine there'd be plenty of late night Febo eating competitions after frequenting the local Cafe's ;) Although I could find plenty of pics of the actual Febo itself, I didn't have much luck finding pics of people eating it.... hmm....

The Doodleburger Challenge, New Haven, CT
As with most competitive eating events, there are records and record holders. This record is topped by two of the finest in the Competitive Eating Arena, Eric "Badlands" Booker, and Tim "Eater-X" Janus. Badlands beat out Ed "Cookie" Jarvis in '04, downing 32 Doodleburgers. He was then trumped in '05 by Eater-X, who ate 33. Not satisfied with the win, Tim returned in '06 to outperform his previous record, and downed 34 burgers in one sitting. He is the current record holder, and Doodleburger champion. You can see the Hall of Fame here. So the fine no-time-limit Yale tradition continues... will Tim hold the title for long?

From: http://hometown.aol.com/beautifulbrian43/doodle.html

Tim Janus walked into the Yankee doodle burger coffee shop with the intent of filling a commitment he made to himself as far back as June 2004. Tim had been thinking about the doodleburger record since that time because he was so frustrated he couldnt qualify for Nathans back then. This summer he had tried to break the record for MTV so they could include it in the episode of True Life. Tim called Rick the owner of Yankee Doodle shop to inform him that MTV crew was coming down but he cautioned them that the AC was busted and that the restaurant was 95 degrees inside. Tim backed out because he thought he would feel uncomfortable in the heat and might blow it.
